SCOPE Press Release

Eight Members join the SCOPE Alliance in 2006 - Alliance gears up to complete Carrier Grade Base Platform (CGBP) Profiles

Total support of all leading NEPs indicates industry readiness to use a COTS based CGBP

Piscataway, New Jersey, September 18, 2006 – The SCOPE Alliance, an association of leading network equipment providers, today announced that Sun Microsystems, Wind River, GoAhead Software and Interphase have joined the Alliance committing to support SCOPE’s mission of enabling and promoting the availability and interoperability of open Carrier Grade Base Platforms based on Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) building blocks. Earlier in the year Huawei Technologies, Lucent Technologies, Intel, and Diversified Technologies joined the Alliance.

The Alliance defines and publishes profiles and perceived gaps in existing open specifications which in turn are used by the Network Equipment Provider Ecosystem to create compatible building blocks and base platforms. The published gaps are intended to be used as input to specifications organizations as they consider future activities.

The SCOPE Alliance encourages companies with diverse perspectives, specialization, and experience to join the Alliance in order to optimize the quality and time in which its goal of having a commercial off the shelf carrier grade base platform become generally available is achieved.

Joining the SCOPE Alliance enables companies to work side-by-side with the leading Network Equipment Providers as well as leading technology and marketing experts to help "profile" and promote the next generation of open specifications based Carrier Grade Base Platforms. SCOPE Alliance members may participate in selected projects, and most importantly directly influence the course of the network equipment provider industry.

Since its inception in early 2006 the SCOPE Alliance has published a technical position paper including a “reference architecture”, an ATCA Profile and a Linux profile. For details see the documents page at http://www.scope-alliance.org/docs.html.
