SCOPE Press Release
The SCOPE Alliance releases Carrier Grade Linux profile version 1.1
The Alliance, in close co-operation with OSDL, updates its Carrier Grade Linux™ Operating System Profile to reflect a common understanding of Network Equipment Providers’ needs
Piscataway, New Jersey, November 30, 2006 - The SCOPE Alliance, an association of leading Network Equipment Providers (NEPs), has released an updated version of its Carrier Grade Linux (CGL) Operating System Profile, Version 1.1. Following the publication of the initial Carrier Grade Linux™ profile (Ver 1.0) in June 2006, the SCOPE Alliance and OSDL successfully aligned the needs of the NEPs as defined in the SCOPE profile with OSDL’s CGL specification, roadmap and registration process for CGL Linux distributions as reflected in CGL Requirements Definition 3.2 (CGL 3.2).
The updated CGL Profile reflects the expectations of the NEPs for a Linux Operating System used in Carrier Grade Base Platforms when creating Control and Service Plane Network Elements. The Scope profile describes a subset of the mandatory CGL 3.2 features and prioritizes the CGL 3.2 “roadmap” items that are necessary to support Carrier Grade Base Platforms (CGBP) for NEPs as well as a identifying extended NEP requirements not currently addressed in the CGL Requirements Definition 3.2.
The SCOPE Alliance and OSDL plan to continue their efforts to maintain alignment between the needs of NEPs and future Requirements Definitions for CGL.
The updated Linux profile (Ver 1.1) is available immediately and may be viewed and downloaded from the Documents area of the SCOPE Alliance website www.scope-alliance.org.
