Piscataway, NJ, 24 October 2007 - The SCOPE Alliance, an association of leading network equipment providers, today announced that Nortel has increased its level of participation in the Alliance becoming a sponsor member committing to support SCOPE’s mission of enabling and promoting the availability and interoperability of open carrier-grade base platforms based on commercial off-the-shelf building blocks. Also, Nortel has joined the SCOPE Alliance Board of Directors.

“With the addition of Nortel to the SCOPE Alliance Board we further ensure that the Alliance is as representative of the global NEP market as possible” said Magnus Karlson, Chairman of the SCOPE Alliance Board of Directors.

“Nortel has long been a strong supporter and advocate of open platforms because they enable us to more quickly and effectively add new services to our customers’ networks. Because we have been actively involved in the discussions among the Network Equipment Providers (NEPs) which eventually led to the formation of SCOPE, we are certainly pleased to become a sponsor member of the Alliance and to be joining the Board Of Directors” said John Roese, CTO, Nortel, adding "we expect to actively contribute to the work of the Alliance in fostering a vibrant open specifications-based carrier grade base platform ecosystem."
